Artist Statement
I love working with color, whether as bold, full designs or subtle accents, and I take great pride in my linework and attention to detail. I’m drawn to intricate, intricate work—anything I can truly get lost in. My style spans custom lettering, vintage-inspired designs, feminine figures, floral work, and both black-and-grey and color tattoos. I’m especially passionate about geometric and henna/mandala designs, old cartoon classics, spiritual and symbolic pieces, and tattoos with a spooky or witchy vibe. I also enjoy creating bold trash polka tattoos and graphic designs.
Cover-ups are another area I enjoy, and I welcome the challenge when it fits within certain limitations. While I prefer larger session pieces that allow me to build a comfortable, consistent connection with my clients, I’m always open to one-shot tattoos if the idea excites me!
Bio
I’m Marna Binkowski, born and raised in the mitten state. I’ve been tattooing in Metro Detroit since 2009, but my passion for this art form started much earlier—drawing on Barbies with Sharpies as a kid, creating milky pen tattoos on the school bus, and experimenting with henna in high school. By freshman year, I knew I’d be a tattoo artist. Some doubted me, others laughed, but that only fueled the fire. I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my family and friends back then and for how it’s grown over the years.
I got my start designing tattoos for friends and logos for their bands. Then came the day I watched a friend get a tattoo I designed—I was hooked. Shortly after, I landed an apprenticeship, as traditional as they came at the time. My setup was humble: two gifted machines, one broken. But those beat-up machines were gold to me, and I didn’t care. After a few months of basic training, I was thrown into the deep end.
Over the years, I’ve learned from many artists, growing through the transition from the old-school "street shop" vibe to today’s appointment-based studios. I’ve worked alongside all kinds of characters—artists and clients alike—and I love the variety of people and stories that this career brings.
In the beginning, I honed multiple styles to accommodate the walk-in industry, which gave me the flexibility to take on a range of work. Over time, I’ve refined my craft, learning what I excel at and focusing on the styles I love most.
Now, as a mother, I’m balancing the chaos of work and family life. My schedule is more limited these days, so I’m selective about the projects I take on, but I’m as passionate as ever about creating art that means something to my clients.
